BenQ PE-7700 DLP Home Cinema Projector with 1,100 Lumens Review

BenQ PE-7700 DLP Home Cinema Projector with 1,100 LumensThe PE7700 is an amazing projector, in it's time. There are comparable projectors out there for about the same price now. When I first turned it on and had it shining on my freshly painted dark forest green wall, my mouth dropped open from how good it looked. I had Batman Begins in my Sony up convert HDMI DVD player. After installing a theater screen I was able to see the true magic from this projector. I noticed only a slight blur from very fast moving action, granted on a 10ft screen you should noticed about anything. The colors are good, blacks are deep and the projector is easy to tweak. The projector has one bad problem. The projector has a bulb issue, and almost any PE7700 made in 2006 need a firmware upgrade to reduce the premature bulb failure. I had one bulb fail in 500 hours and a second after 50. I have sent back the projector for a firmware upgrade and a new bulb. I had to haggle for the replacement bulb, as long as it doesn't fail again prematurely, I will stick with projector for another 2-3 years. I paid $2400 2 years ago for the projector, mount and replacement bulb. Now a new one can be picked up for under $1000. BenQ has a great warranty period of 3 years for their projector. This one has been good with the exception of the bulb failure, but that can be a costly problem at $350 for a bulb replacement.
